# Citing your abstract

### Citing your abstract

All paper and poster abstracts will be published in [IOVS](https://iovs.arvojournals.org/) approximately 1 - 2 months after the end of the Annual Meeting. You will be able to cite them as publications after that time.

**How do I cite the abstract before publication? **
Before publication in *IOVS* , follow the publication style guidelines for where you are submitting your manuscript.

*IOVS* uses the style outlined in the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 10th edition.

Format: Authors. Paper or Poster Title. Paper or Poster presented at: Meeting title with Full Association Title; Date of Presentation; Location of Conference.

Example: [Last "family" name] [First initial]. [Name of paper or poster]. [Paper or Poster] presented at: ARVO 2022 of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalomology; May [day], 2024; Virtual.

**How do I cite the abstract in a manuscript I'm preparing for IOVS? **
ARVO abstract citations are to appear parenthetically within the text, not as bibliographic references. For ARVO abstracts from 1977 to 2001, citations should include (1) name of first author, (2) "IOVS", (3) year, (4) volume number, (5) "ARVO Abstract", and (6) program number. For ARVO abstracts from 2002 forward, citations should include (1) name of first author, (2) "IOVS", (3) year, (4) volume number, (5) "ARVO E-Abstract", and (6) program number.

Example: (Roska BM, et al. IOVS 2002;43:ARVO E-Abstract 141e)
